issue which can benefit them but hurt the nation, it makes no difference
to them.<br /><p></p><div class="code-block code-block-2" style="clear: both; display: block; margin: 8px auto; text-align: center;">
<div id="rfp-NjgxOjE1MjMy" style="height: auto; width: 100%;"></div>
</div>
<p>Those in the opposition need to understand every statement
they make has an impact. They seem to harp on an issue which has a local
impact but does not hold water.</p><div class="teads-adCall"></div>
<p>In this day and age, the social media is a powerful tool. Everything a
politician says can go viral instantaneously with adverse national and
international impact if such is their ultimate intention.</p><div class="code-block code-block-1" style="clear: both; display: block; margin: 8px auto; text-align: center;">
</div>
<p>Politicians tend to capitalise on sensitive issues to show that they
are on the ball without realising that their action can chase away
investors be they local or international.</p>
<p>For example, opposition politicians have been hitting out on concerts
performed by international stars on religious grounds but oblivious of
their mutti-fold economic benefits. A case in point is that the recent
Taylor Swift concert in Singapore brought the island nation enormous
economic benefits.</p>
<p>Singapore saw visitors spent somewhere in the region of S$500 mil
(RM1.6 bil) with hotels, tours, airline tickets and eateries over-run by
concert goers.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCiTSBFuk6lb9S6CDwN8pnWcYB8tv0YVu654ZsuG17jJMUyf1Iyb-z_zEGS_GO6AGfcvQ8B19-8YzJAofQgmpOu4HzA-_gRcz2dMjNNOL_wQqZbXBFKUhuqtGu2r8MbIqQYPL5zt2Dp0_buLh1ysspU5eB-AKiP1MIFO4689qBTqfHXclVKxHDTohynG4/s948/Robert-Phang-948x632.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="632" data-original-width="948" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCiTSBFuk6lb9S6CDwN8pnWcYB8tv0YVu654ZsuG17jJMUyf1Iyb-z_zEGS_GO6AGfcvQ8B19-8YzJAofQgmpOu4HzA-_gRcz2dMjNNOL_wQqZbXBFKUhuqtGu2r8MbIqQYPL5zt2Dp0_buLh1ysspU5eB-AKiP1MIFO4689qBTqfHXclVKxHDTohynG4/s320/Robert-Phang-948x632.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>Since the end of pandemic curbs, a number of top artists have
performed in Singapore, including Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Blackpink and
Harry Styles. According to economists, this has contributed about 0.25%
to the island nation’s economic growth in 1Q 2024 alone.</p>
<p>Malaysia has simply missed out on this golden opportunity because our
politicians have done their very best to scare away international acts
with their over-zealous comments.</p>
<p>Even food had become a hot topic especially the inclusion of <em>bak kut teh</em> in the national heritage cuisine list.</p>
<p>Politicians simply took an issue to this without examining the issues
in depth because they felt by criticising the decision, they could
stretch their political mileage. This is despite Tourism, Arts and
Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing had justified why <em>bak kut teh</em> is included in the list of National Heritage cuisines.</p>
<p>Politicians should stop attacking the government just for the sake of wanting to be recognised for championing certain causes.</p>
<p>They must also stop making sweeping statements just to be known for
being vocal on issues that favour them. Put the nation first, not
personal or party interest. – March 14, 2024</p><p><strong><em>Prominent social activist and philanthropist Tan Sri Robert

Instead of focusing on attempts to oust the unity
government, they should provide meaningful debates on government policy
and issues of the day, according to prominent social activist and
philanthropist Tan Sri Robert Phang Miow Sin (main pic, right).<br /></p><p></p><p>“The people are now facing hard times with the cost of living
continuing to go up. As this is as much a global phenomenon, lawmakers
on both sides of the divide should come up with innovative ways to help
the <em>rakyst</em> overcome their hardship,” he told <strong><em>FocusM</em></strong>.</p><div class="code-block code-block-1" style="clear: both; display: block; margin: 8px auto; text-align: center;">
</div>
<p>“Instead of channelling their efforts to orchestrate the recent Dubai
Move conspiracy, for examples, key leaders of the opposition should
have taken time to discuss how to help ease financial burden among B40
Malaysians.”</p>
<p>The founder and chairman of the Social Care Foundation was commenting
on Sultan Ibrahim’s royal address on Monday (Feb 26) whereby the latter
advised lawmakers to cease plans to oust the national unity government
outside of elections.</p>
<p>This came about as the Johor ruler graced the first parliamentary
meeting of the year which also happens to be his first parliamentary
duty since ascending the throne as the 17th YDPA on Jan 31.</p>
<p>The former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) advisory
member further cautioned the opposition that they risk “scaring away
foreign investors” by incessantly attacking Prime Minister Datuk Seri
Anwar Ibrahim and the unity government.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiNiL7C_6aJPIsXpPTiKiWrmHMsssNJMNYUddpuwYjX2ROUF-o2nj93n0D8gY1JjU24SRYbPdbgLlx3mMxDRbuP8kMxRDXeYOW9sq3vKMvQDxY8qY2F2ayBujdi9b4CRLbJYoy_i0kGMLb_kpZvojYBkK1O7gKAgjOxeTiSsfdZpYQWF0HPyOw_-n9cuA/s646/Phang-MACC-646x375.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="375" data-original-width="646" height="186" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiNiL7C_6aJPIsXpPTiKiWrmHMsssNJMNYUddpuwYjX2ROUF-o2nj93n0D8gY1JjU24SRYbPdbgLlx3mMxDRbuP8kMxRDXeYOW9sq3vKMvQDxY8qY2F2ayBujdi9b4CRLbJYoy_i0kGMLb_kpZvojYBkK1O7gKAgjOxeTiSsfdZpYQWF0HPyOw_-n9cuA/s320/Phang-MACC-646x375.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><p>He went on to justify that only with the help of investors will there
be job creation which will enable to oil the national economy, thus
ensuring long-term employment and for prosperity to be passed down to
all Malaysians.</p>
<p>For this reason, Phang wants key leaders of the opposition to ask
themselves who will benefit from scaring away investors or if their
action is tantamount of leaving the country in doldrums.</p>
<p>The 84-year-old Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation exco member
therefore urged opposition MPs to stop putting their own interest first
in current times of difficulty but instead find ways to promote ideas to
lift the national economy and well-being of Malaysians.</p>
<p>“They have to realise that it is the public who elected them as their
representatives in the Parliament but that does not mean that the
opposition can simply promote their own agenda at the expense of the <em>rakyat </em>who elected them.”</p>
<p>In this regard, Phang hailed Sultan Ibrahim’s call which made it very
clear that the Agong would not brook any attempts to trigger a
premature change of government that could de-stabilise the country.</p>
<p>He contended that the opposition should heed such advice by playing
their role of doling out constructive criticism instead of merely
dishing out irresponsible statements that could hurt the country.</p>
<p>Like it or not, the crime fighter who is also sits on the board of a
few public listed entities wants the opposition to understand that
investors pay close attention to what is happening in the country before
deciding whether to invest.</p>
<p>He added that scaring them away at this juncture is wasteful for it is akin to shooting oneself on one’s own foot.</p>
<p>“Politicians have to think about the future of the nation and that
that of the future generation of Malaysians first instead of their own
short-term interest,” added Phang. – March 1, 2024</p><p><span style="font-size: xx-small;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-size: xx-small;">Source : https://focusmalaysia.my/robert-phang-dont-blindly-run-down-the-unity-govt-for-foreign-investors-are-watching-us-closely/</span><br /></p>Tan Sri Robert Phanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05750725161952767053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8050003837962142655.post-2444840616227494582024-02-20T09:47:00.000+08:002024-02-20T09:47:00.300+08:00Robert Phang: Onus on Spanco shareholders to lay to rest alleged fleet management scandal<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5PEiJ2yKQIL0vlxzEUZAal_2hlFRH-PcgX9AM4bsi2kq0SSKKv3laDjW4jxVAqcyjoU9804NQ6UFY3WbdSFXKs-njnNcHDMVpKy7K9f1uniDqjXxPahjE1rBWEXNBygPw4uyE2b3Mp-vYdD_osvHLqmuXQMQAXtJLOm_pb9Rva3Ps0AyRzrozI4Tlwhk/s778/Spanco-Robert-Phang.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="778" height="189" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5PEiJ2yKQIL0vlxzEUZAal_2hlFRH-PcgX9AM4bsi2kq0SSKKv3laDjW4jxVAqcyjoU9804NQ6UFY3WbdSFXKs-njnNcHDMVpKy7K9f1uniDqjXxPahjE1rBWEXNBygPw4uyE2b3Mp-vYdD_osvHLqmuXQMQAXtJLOm_pb9Rva3Ps0AyRzrozI4Tlwhk/s320/Spanco-Robert-Phang.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>THERE are many unanswered questions regarding how the government had
awarded a contract to Spanco Sdn Bhd which prides itself as the provider
of professional fleet management services to the federal government,
ministries and agencies nationwide with a fleet size of over 13,000
units of concession vehicles.<br /><p></p><div class="code-block code-block-2" style="clear: both; display: block; margin: 8px auto; text-align: center;">
<div id="rfp-NjgxOjE1MjMy" style="height: auto; width: 100%;"></div>
</div>
<p>As such, it imperative for the unity government to find out
how the tender for the government vehicle supply, repair and maintenance
project (fleet Project) was awarded to Spanco, according to prominent
social activist, crime fighter and philanthropist Tan Sri Robert Phang
Miow Sin (main pic, inset).</p>
<p>The former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) advisory
member said the main priority should be for those responsible in
awarding the contract to explain to the public what was their rational
in extending the contract to Spanco.</p><div class="code-block code-block-1" style="clear: both; display: block; margin: 8px auto; text-align: center;">
</div>
<p>“The public has the right to know and the issue cannot be swept under
the carpet. It is the taxpayers’ money that is being used,” he told <strong><em>FocusM</em></strong>.</p>
<p>“Those responsible cannot simply shrug their shoulders and ignore
their responsibility. No matter who was in-charge of awarding the
contract to Spanco he must stand up and take responsibility.”</p>
<p>Pointing out that Spanco had been managing the government fleet
project for 25 years, the 84-year-old Phang further questioned as to why
only Spanco was given the project.</p>
<p>On Jan 20, MACC conducted a raid at the residence of a businessman
holding the title Tan Sri as part of an investigation into corruption
allegations related to the procurement and management of the
government’s fleet of vehicles valued at RM4.5 bil.</p><p></p><p>The concession for the supply and management of government vehicles
has been held by Spanco since 1993. However, an open tender was
initiated after the contract expired in 2019.</p>
<p>Berjaya Group and Naza Sdn Bhd later formed a consortium and secured
the contract through a letter of intent (LOI) in the same year.</p>
<p>In July last year however, Berjaya Group founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan
Chee Yioun filed a lawsuit against the Finance Ministry and Spanco
regarding the terminated LOI, claiming that the contract was awarded to
Spanco despite their higher bid.</p>
<p>Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had recently recalled that he
had consistently voiced concerns about this issue during his tenure as
finance minister under the administration of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.</p>
<p>He said he had recognised irregularities in that contract which
proved detrimental to the country and disadvantaged civil servants.</p>
<p>Phang who is also Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation exco member
went on to question as to why during the administration of Tan Sri
Muhyiddin Yassin the LOI was cancelled and Spanco was awarded the fleet
management contract.</p>
<p>As such, he argued that it is also imperative for Spanco shareholders
to explain to the public how they manage to secure the contract after
they had initially failed to get it.</p>
<p>“Spanco shareholders have to realise that remaining silent about the
matter is not an option given the money they are being paid for the
government fleet management is public money,” added the chairman of NGO
Social Care Foundation. – Feb 20, 2024</p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;">Source : https://focusmalaysia.my/robert-phang-onus-on-spanco-shareholders-to-lay-to-rest-alleged-fleet-management-scandal/</span><br /></p>Tan Sri Robert Phanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05750725161952767053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8050003837962142655.post-62406243855201862072024-01-29T10:50:00.004+08:002024-01-29T10:50:39.144+08:00SUPPORT NOT DEMORALISE!!!!<p><b><span style="font-size: medium;">27th January 2024.<br /><br />Tan Sri Datuk Robert Phang Miow Sin,<br />Justice of the Peace,<br />Chairman – Social Care Foundation</span></b></p><p><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

hesitate to crack down on those abusing their power to enrich
themselves, be they “Tuns or Tan Sris”, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar
Ibrahim told a crowd of investors today.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho-aLueL7vdyZgHB6gB20KrYWaAfR4ESaDgg7-uwiG-SV25r3y3NxJ1Oc83rHvBa_GGNpkLyTk3XJr1Nlgk9xkhNu1I1AWLQD0EniD0cv1KH_g7ko_vNUpwtYhWRq5cIqu-s7U58aSuSEiLEVbR743le8k0PjKEogQwwL1irEHZyuWlUbPWqF5oVp3/s800/20230308-kul-Anwar_Ibrahim_Invest_Malaysia_-_ABDUL_RAZAK_LATIF_023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="534" data-original-width="800" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho-aLueL7vdyZgHB6gB20KrYWaAfR4ESaDgg7-uwiG-SV25r3y3NxJ1Oc83rHvBa_GGNpkLyTk3XJr1Nlgk9xkhNu1I1AWLQD0EniD0cv1KH_g7ko_vNUpwtYhWRq5cIqu-s7U58aSuSEiLEVbR743le8k0PjKEogQwwL1irEHZyuWlUbPWqF5oVp3/w320-h214/20230308-kul-Anwar_Ibrahim_Invest_Malaysia_-_ABDUL_RAZAK_LATIF_023.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>Addressing business players and
investors, Anwar, who is also finance minister, said his administration
would not be influenced by a person’s power or position.</p>
<p>“We will uphold the highest ethical
standards and there will be no room for abuse of power under this
administration,” he said in his keynote address at Invest Malaysia 2023
Series 1: Strengthening Resilience and Sustaining Growth here today. </p>
<p>“Whether you are a Tun or Tan Sri, whether you are in this government or the opposition, we will act without fear or favour.”</p>
<p>Anwar did not mention any names. </p>
<p>Recently, however, Malaysian authorities have launched investigations into two prominent individuals.</p>
<p>One is former finance minister Tun Daim
Zainuddin, who served during Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s first tenure as
prime minister. The 84-year-old Daim is being probed over his wealth
after his name appeared in the Pandora Papers. </p>
<p>The other is former prime minister Tan
Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is being investigated over the alleged
siphoning of public funds during his time in federal power. </p>
<p>In his speech today, Anwar said though
some felt that repeated talk of corruption, ill-gotten gains, and
bribery will cast aspersions on Malaysia’s image, the government
believed it had to start rebuilding confidence by being honest about
existing underlying problems. </p>
<p>“I have said this many times, and I will
repeat it here again. This government adopts a zero-tolerance approach
towards misconduct and corruption.”</p>
<p><strong>Post-pandemic recovery led to high debt</strong></p>
<p>Anwar also touched on post-pandemic
economic recovery measures and large-scale stimulus programmes which
drove the country’s 2022 gross domestic product (GDP) growth to 8.7%.</p>
<p>However, the prime minister said this came with a heavy cost – high national debt.</p><p>Federal government debt now sits just below 61% of GDP, while the
statutory debt limit had been raised twice to 65% during the pandemic. </p><p>“Taken together with contingent liabilities, our total debt is RM1.5 trillion, or 81% of GDP.”</p><p>He said while the government is not able
to address issues concerning the rakyat all at once, it recognizes that
people of ordinary means are under increasing economic pressure. </p><p>He added that sensibly, those in the
corridors of power should build, secure, and enable the ladders that
would help the nation escape the middle-income trap, and to help those
at the very bottom climb out of poverty. </p><p>
</p><p>In this regard, he said his recent Budget
2023 has been designed to address these challenges head-on – through
fiscal reforms, rebuilding the nation’s fiscal buffers, and economic,
fiscal, and debt resilience. – </p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;">Source : https://www.thevibes.com/articles/news/87205/tun-or-tan-sri-all-will-face-the-music-if-corrupt-anwar-assures-investors</span></p>Tan Sri Robert Phanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05750725161952767053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8050003837962142655.post-11745772775762540072023-02-24T13:24:00.001+08:002023-02-24T13:24:26.617+08:00JanaWibawa probe ongoing, says MACC chief<p>The investigation into the JanaWibawa programme for the empowerment

the objective of speeding up the implementation of projects and

weekend. Malaysia is renowned for its trolling industry; it also is
home to many scammers who trick Malaysians first. Is the new prime
minister one of them? </p>
<p>The feeling of distrust among voters was very high before GE15 and
disinterest among the youth-led many observers to believe that the voter
turnout would be low. After the Sheraton Move that saw the Pakatan
Harapan (PH) majority overthrown in favor of an alliance led by
Umno-Bersatu, many citizens felt like they had been scammed. After all,
the Perikatan Nasional-Umno combo was not they had voted for. </p><p>However, far from causing disinterest, the disaffection for Malaysian
political leaders in fact led to a great turnout on polling day – a
little over 73%. Another surprise at this election was that while many
observers assumed the wave of young voters and first-time voters,
largely young Malay males, would translate into votes for PH, first-time
voters undeniably gave their support to PAS (49 seats), increased
Bersatu’s influence (from 13 seats in 2018 to 24) and rejected its
liberal Malay alternative Umno (down from 54 to 26 seats) and the
multi-cultural alternative PKR (down from 47 to 31 seats). </p><p>This means that while the Sheraton Move was certainly another
distortion of the country’s political history – which had remained
rather linear until 2018 – it did not translate in a loss of support for
PN. </p><p>The economic tremors in the post-Covid-19 era raised a nostalgia for
the old days of stability: those were the days of Umno. However, the
overlap between Umno and the numerous court scandals added to the
factionalism that did not resolve and in fact annihilated Umno's image
of stability. </p><p>GE15 was indeed a plebiscite for the other oldest and most stable
political force in the country, PAS, and its ally Bersatu. Meanwhile, PH
continued its prevalence in urban and non-Malay majority
constituencies. Yet no party or coalition succeeded in obtaining a
single majority, and Malaysia for the first time experienced a hung
parliament.</p><p>
</p><p>The drama and intense negotiations that followed increased voters'
anxiety, compounded by an unfamiliarity with the democratic process. In
fact, a hung parliament followed by a long period of negotiations
between parties and coalitions is a normal (democratic) exercise.
Belgium surely holds the world record of functioning without a
government for 592 days. However, the Agong saw things differently,
urging coalitions to form a unity government to ensure the fair
representation of voters’ voices. </p><p>The antagonistic position of PN leaders against Anwar Ibrahim and the
Umno court cluster gave Anwar a highway to form an alliance with his
former enemy and the big loser of GE15, the Umno-led BN. Soon, the new
allies were joined by Muda, GPS, GRS, and other smaller parties. </p><p>At the same time, the rise of racial threats further amplified
Malaysians’ anxiety in an unfamiliar political territory. The threat of
political chaos and a possible return of the May 1969 violence have been
largely cultivated by political parties for years. It is thus
unsurprising that the ghost of May 13 was used one more time to trigger
fear and play on public opinion. </p><p>
</p><p>Two narratives emerged: for some, beyond reformasi, Anwar became the
democratic fortress against the "danger" of a conservative Islamic
government, while for many Malays, the power seized by a non-Malay
majority coalition would be the end of their political hegemony and a
threat to their economic privileges (privileges and policies that in
fact failed to eradicate poverty among Malays but mostly satisfied the
middle class and elite). </p><p>In this first narrative, the alliance between PH and Umno was
depicted as the lesser evil, and the expansion of their alliance to the
Bornean coalitions eased the idea of a dangerous liaison and justified
the term "unity government". </p><p>In the second narrative, PAS offered the guarantee of the
preservation of Malay rights, while Bersatu represented a perfect image
of Umno minus the scandals and the factionalism (or less factionalism,
at least). The semantic of unity vs coalition government remains a
subject of discussion today, as PN argues that there cannot be unity
without its inclusion – an invitation it denied. </p><p>Rather than being a pure racial or ethnic question, the PH-Umno
extended political family versus PN feud is in fact a class conflict.
When looking at the vote share of PH and PN, we see clearly that the
urban elite largely voted for PH while the rural folks voted for PN. </p><p>
</p><p>Urban Malay elites surely do not wish for their liberal lifestyle to
be questioned by a conservative Islamic government (that would include
some of the members of this very same government), and these concerns
closely align with non-Malay interests. </p><p>Meanwhile, the Malay rural and urban lower-income folks who may have
been disappointed by the Umno scandals wish to secure what they believe
is the only way for them to maintain a decent living (again, the
failures of the NEP are rarely exposed). </p><p>Anwar announced his Cabinet on Friday with five Umno ministers and
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as his deputy. While the co-optation of Umno by PH
was a strategy, supported by the king, to form a majority, it was also a
violent silencing of the Malay voice. </p><p>The reformasi agenda promoted by Anwar for over 20 years has faded
over the past few years with the marginalization of some of the key PKR
voices. Anwar has had to make many difficult compromises to build his
majority, and GE15 proved undeniably that his persona and agenda do not
appeal to the Malay masses. </p><p>
</p><p>For his government to survive, Umno needs to pacify the hearts and
souls of the Malays, "mission impossible" in a context where PN leaders
have openly declared themselves as the government-in-waiting, a
reference to Anwar's former title of PM-in-waiting. </p><p>Anwar will have to navigate very carefully for his government to
stabilize the country. After years of struggle, he inherits an extremely
sensitive social context, and economic distress enhanced by high
political fluidity. </p><p>
</p><p>Scams, schemes, and (no) shame seem forever linked to Malaysian
politics, and these notes have left deeper marks in the recent history
of the country. However, the Cabinet of the day, whether
scammers-schemers-shamers or reformists-optimists-capitalists, may be
able to unite on issues and policies that have dominated Parliament
discussions for years: offering an equal voice and future for Sabah and
Sarawak, and implementing overdue legal reforms for social justice and
the expansion of civil liberties. Harapan may not be entirely lost.</p><p><br /></p>Tan Sri Robert Phanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05750725161952767053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8050003837962142655.post-1531350474871556982022-11-24T15:50:00.002+08:002022-11-24T15:57:31.546+08:00YB DATO’ SERI ANWAR IBRAHIM / YB DATO’ SERI AHMAD ZAHID HAMIDI / YAB DATO’ SERI ISMAIL SABRI.<h2 style="border: none; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-border-bottom-alt: solid windowtext .75pt; mso-padding-alt: 0cm 0cm 1.0pt 0cm; padding: 0cm; text-align: justify;"></h2><h4><b style="text-align: justify;"><span face=""Arial",sans-serif" lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">24th November 2022.<br /></span></b><b><span face=""Arial",sans-serif" lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> <br /></span></b><b><span face=""Arial",sans-serif" lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">PRESS STATEMENT BY:-<br /></span></b><b><span face=""Arial",sans-serif" lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">TAN SRI DATUK ROBERT PHANG

appointment of a mayor who is not part of the civil service will prove
to be a breath of fresh air as he would bring a different perspective on
how the nation’s largest city, Kuala Lumpur, should be governed.</p> <div id="sas_44269"></div><p>Former
Transport Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam said
everyone who served as the city’s mayor had been a civil servant and
brought along a civil service mentality of doing things only in a
certain way.</p><p>He said another problem with appointing civil servants is that they
would also feel beholden to those in power, follow the ideas of the
government for the city, and not look at how effective those ideas would
be.</p><p>“The proposal to appoint a non-civil servant such as Tan Sri
Lee Lam Thye will be good for Kuala Lumpur as he has lived here nearly
all his life and knows more about the city than civil servants.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0eW8Nc6-Md6HZAiIG9d523XF7qYWB3-fWLCogOCgqvua46pcA9PFQyJDquSFrzjieQPvVmDqLvy1xn5glalQPVG9Hv7F-WRu45VvQyKoibwli5SWV0wkS2D6FEO6w--cWd5cMsgYcJOpqDvtv0NWU9xpSiwFTpywU6wcaMlZGYkkUKsew3AjbnkN-/s1000/web-page-2-datuk-seri-dr-lee-lam-thye-1_2503367_20220720083524.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0eW8Nc6-Md6HZAiIG9d523XF7qYWB3-fWLCogOCgqvua46pcA9PFQyJDquSFrzjieQPvVmDqLvy1xn5glalQPVG9Hv7F-WRu45VvQyKoibwli5SWV0wkS2D6FEO6w--cWd5cMsgYcJOpqDvtv0NWU9xpSiwFTpywU6wcaMlZGYkkUKsew3AjbnkN-/w320-h213/web-page-2-datuk-seri-dr-lee-lam-thye-1_2503367_20220720083524.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>“He

Centre for Public Policy Studies at the Asian Strategy and Leadership
Institute, said having a Malaysian outlook, identity and perspective are
important to make Kuala Lumpur a dynamic and vibrant city.</p><p>He said the public sees Lee as a simple, honest and humble man.</p><p>“He is a person who has no airs of grandeur. Having a non-civil servant will be a step forward.</p><p>“By
appointing Lee as Kuala Lumpur mayor, the government will show the
people it is serious about change and is putting them above everything

columnist Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, who is also a former chairman and chief
executive officer of Bernama, said major cities around the world have
appointed mayors from among outstanding public personalities outside the
civil service.</p><div class="paragraph"><p>He said he decided to put forward the idea of
appointing Lee as Kuala Lumpur mayor because of his outstanding
achievements and his relentless public service.</p> <p>Azman quoted the
Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as saying: “I have
witnessed with my very own eyes how impressive his many years of serving
the rakyat are.</p> <p>“Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye is a real YB which can be
translated also as Yang Berkerja (one who works) and Yang Berkhidmat
(one who serves).”</p> <p>Social activist Tan Sri Robert Phang said it
is a good idea to have someone outside the civil service to be named as
Kuala Lumpur's mayor.</p> <p>He said the better idea would be to allow the public to choose the person best suited to run the city.</p> <p>Former
UKM vice-chancellor Tan Sri Anuwar Ali said he supported the idea of
appointing Lee as the next mayor as he is the most suitable candidate
and is well respected by the public.</p> <p>He added that Lee, in his
various roles, had highlighted his concerns on issues such as housing,
health and education in our society.</p> </div><p> </p><div class="paragraph"> <p>Ramon said the proposal to appoint Lee as mayor will be good for Kuala Lumpur as he has lived in the city nearly all his life.</p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;">Source : https://www.thesundaily.my/home/good-move-to-appoint-non-civil-servant-as-kl-mayor-AY9472763?fbclid=IwAR1woyL66ddIOnHg7DOKfdZsgglDwpgozbo77kwbHCbaW9iq6vx91rAmQh0</span></p></div>Tan Sri Robert Phanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05750725161952767053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8050003837962142655.post-82056566249866113662022-05-27T11:09:00.000+08:002022-05-27T11:09:51.439+08:00No party should intimidate judiciary: Social activist<p><span class="04-btxt__002dutopia-9pt-bold" style="font-family: Poppins, sans-serif;"><b><span style="text-transform: uppercase;">PETALING JAYA:</span></b></span><span class="04-btxt__002dutopia-9pt" style="font-family: Poppins, sans-serif;"> The judiciary should not be intimidated by any organisation as it is an independent body that is the guardian of justice for everyone.</span></p><p class="paragraph text 04-btxt__002dutopia-9pt" style="background-color: white; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif;"><span class="04-btxt__002dutopia-9pt">Social activist Tan Sri Robert Phang said any type of probe involving a judge must be above board.</span></p><p class="paragraph text 04-btxt__002dutopia-9pt" style="background-color: white; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif;"><span class="04-btxt__002dutopia-9pt">“The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had said its investigation was not based on a blogger’s claims on social media platforms but three formal complaints and reports lodged with the commission.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0l58QB3WN5QQ22dntOcFflt5ycLIC9q4UCZY13Fo0dEBpSJHm3Ize8u_xmu4JHKwQsPubhAk1GkiUWS9ZE_FQmuWayMyXSZfQ4pt81xNcS8zjIQB2dcKisAbVZMTd3y9VbX1icIdEpj5vd3MlX3E6CDGsFqQtnL0tb_gDEMWE6Xo6us9sNjHhW_ns/s1086/ca69ad3bc9a005003cf0235ba6e7cf77.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="630" data-original-width="1086" height="186" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0l58QB3WN5QQ22dntOcFflt5ycLIC9q4UCZY13Fo0dEBpSJHm3Ize8u_xmu4JHKwQsPubhAk1GkiUWS9ZE_FQmuWayMyXSZfQ4pt81xNcS8zjIQB2dcKisAbVZMTd3y9VbX1icIdEpj5vd3MlX3E6CDGsFqQtnL0tb_gDEMWE6Xo6us9sNjHhW_ns/s320/ca69ad3bc9a005003cf0235ba6e7cf77.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p class="paragraph text 04-btxt__002dutopia-9pt" style="background-color: white; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif;"><span class="04-btxt__002dutopia-9pt">“The question MACC has failed to answer is what was the basis of the three reports, who made them and why. few years has regressed both domestically and on the international
front.</p> <div id="sas_44269"></div><p>Malaysia, which previously
ranked ahead of most of our fellow ASEAN member nations in terms of
economic progress and governance, has now fallen behind.</p><p>What is obvious and is practically felt by most Malaysians is the
feeling that there have been too much politics and politicking since the
2018 general election.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiyB7d77jZN_DfT66xUUAI7ubLM8sgW-wOWjoWIEK1d47rnf6fJqnY-Mb4zhHnQemmNqmajtCD0cQPj71Lwxlvy0op8vN27T638ghhi0cuDUeE5YVva6eS4nl9T_p4qPDFf7CwLzxn_8tw7dtZ7yXSSjOgRVPUA9dd1OxGEEHgVRRUGo6kfwZFNG4gD=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="831" data-original-width="1000" height="166" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiyB7d77jZN_DfT66xUUAI7ubLM8sgW-wOWjoWIEK1d47rnf6fJqnY-Mb4zhHnQemmNqmajtCD0cQPj71Lwxlvy0op8vN27T638ghhi0cuDUeE5YVva6eS4nl9T_p4qPDFf7CwLzxn_8tw7dtZ7yXSSjOgRVPUA9dd1OxGEEHgVRRUGo6kfwZFNG4gD=w200-h166" width="200" /></a></div><p></p><p>There is no such thing as political peace
that generally follows after the people have delivered their mandate in
an election. Instead, the country and people are suffering from
political fatigue. And they are fed up. And this is happening in a
nation that once proudly boasted of political stability and was the envy
of many.</p><p>Our international image has been badly battered by the
1MDB saga, that has been described by foreign media as the world’s
biggest ever financial scandal. Just as we thought the 1MDB scandal was
taking a respite, more explosive details of how Malaysia was milked off
by tens of billions have been revealed in an ongoing trial in New York
of a former Goldman Sachs banker.</p><div id="sas_65749"></div><p>Domestically,
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri has announced that the
government is allowing another one-off withdrawal of RM10,000 for
Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributors from April 20. This will be
the third such withdrawal over two years since the outbreak of the
Covid-19 pandemic, to tide over the financial woes of the B40 households
who have been worst hit via job losses and unemployment.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgOJSbZin2lNX4c716UpPcV_7NBES7IOCk1I-WYHX1s1CESd32AoseoxEX-4TAVtG29IU9BMYpfF1VsKSlds7D9ZoO16UkHOn_zRdwgxotIuienn_40H9P8MSC4R5xa8wQaWIDIQ83NQ5-A46UN1pQlrUk1Zaq7lEKRhD2V5MUZ4LqOAS_uFtBS4FnL=s1050" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="623" data-original-width="1050" height="190" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgOJSbZin2lNX4c716UpPcV_7NBES7IOCk1I-WYHX1s1CESd32AoseoxEX-4TAVtG29IU9BMYpfF1VsKSlds7D9ZoO16UkHOn_zRdwgxotIuienn_40H9P8MSC4R5xa8wQaWIDIQ83NQ5-A46UN1pQlrUk1Zaq7lEKRhD2V5MUZ4LqOAS_uFtBS4FnL=s320" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>Such
frequent withdrawals mean millions of contributors are facing a bleak
old age financial future, with the media reporting that some 50% of the
total EPF contributors have less than RM10,000 balance as of now.</p><p>The
previous two withdrawals by some 7.3 million, or half of the total
contributors, have depleted EPF funds by a whopping RM101 billion.</p><p>With
the latest withdrawals beginning next month, economists and the layman
are deeply concerned about EPF’s ability to maintain a decent annual
dividend rate moving forward.</p><p>It is of utmost importance now for
politicians, especially those running the country, both at federal and
state levels, to get their act together by putting aside their selfish
interests to mitigate the damage they have done so far.</p><p> </p><p>Since the
14th General Election (GE14) in 2018, self-created political
instability has forced three states to hold snap elections, something
that could have been avoided and saved taxpayers a few hundred million
ringgit.</p><p>In the first three years after GE14, Malaysia has had four prime
ministers, something no county can ever be proud of. And now Umno, the
nation’s dominant party, basking in its landslide election wins in both
Malacca and Johor, is upping the pressure for a snap GE15 as well.</p><p>This
has been met with a resounding “No” from at least six state governments
so far, whose leaders have said they will not dissolve the state
legislative assemblies should GE15 be held this year instead of the
scheduled one only a year from now. Bravo to them.</p><p>The rakyat has
every right to demand for politicians who are bent on disrupting our
once cherished political stability at their whims and fancies to do the
most honourable thing – to step down gracefully before more damage is
done.</p><p>In this regards, I urge Putrajaya to expedite without any
further delay the presentation of the Anti-Hopping law during the
current sitting of Parliament. I also urge our Members of Parliament as
well senators to buck up and to live up to the people’s expectations.
Many would agree that most of them are warming their seats at the
taxpayers’ expense.</p><p>With Covid-19 still raging and our elected
representatives both at federal and state levels still free to jump from
Party A to Party B, we need a strong political will to fix all the
wrongs that are undermining the country’s future.</p><p>At the outset, I asked where are we at right now? And the rakyat at large must be saying “Enough is enough”.</p><p> </p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;">Source : https://www.thesundaily.my/opinion/where-are-we-at-right-now-HH8966801</span></p><div class="text"><div class="paragraph"> </div></div>Tan Sri Robert Phanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05750725161952767053noreply@blogger.com0
