The HELP University College (HELP) will collaborate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to develop knowledge and expertise in curbing corruption in the country.
This was contained in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by both parties to develop an academic training programme through the establishment of the Institute Of Crime And Criminology (ICC), to raise the standard and quality of investigation on white-collar crime.MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed and the president and founder of HELP, Datuk Dr Paul Chan signed the MoU for their respective organisations. ICC will offer programmes leading to the bachelors degree and professional executive training and a Master of Science in Economic Crime Management which would be the first in Asia.
Five scholarships for MACC
HELP will offer five scholarships to MACC each year for its officers to take up academic programmes at the institute."We have invested a total of RM1 million for research and teaching capability and development of the institute," Chan told reporters.
Earlier, Abu Kassim in his speech said that the establishment of ICC was well-timed and significant in the fight against crime.It was also parallel with the government's effort to reduce crime and fight corruption, which is among the six focus in the National Key Result Areas (NKRA).
"I concur with the views of many intellectuals that fighting crime and corruption needs cooperation and hand-in-hand involvement of various sectors including educational institution," he said at the launching.ICC will be headed by president of the Association Of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), Malaysia Chapter, Akhbar Satar.
