Below is the article from malaysiakini web portal together with the comments from the readers.
Following the latest allegation plaguing attorney-general Abdul Gani
Patail involving conglomerate Ho Hup Bhd and its former managing director
Vincent Lye, a social activist has called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption
Commission to act swiftly and investigate the matter.
Former MACC advisory committee member Robert Phang also urged Gani to come clean on the charge made in the blog Malaysia Today and to step down to facilitate investigations."Gani has again courted controversy, this time with a revelation in Malaysia Today on Aug 24. If the allegation is not thoroughly investigated, it will be perceived badly by the rakyat.
"Malaysia Today also produced documentary evidence of what appears to be Gani receiving gratification to take sides in a corporate boardroom tussle in Ho Hup Construction Bhd," Phang said. The MACC on its part must show independence and courage by acting swiftly to investigate this matter.
"To facilitate such an investigation, Gani must immediately step down. These are clear steps that must be taken to preserve the integrity of the AG's Chambers and that of the government.
"Otherwise, the MACC will be regarded as impotent and not daring to take action against those in the corridors of power," Phang added.
Malaysia Today, operated by blogger and ex-ISA detainee Raja Petra Kamaruddin, reported that Lye, who is from Sabah, from where Gani also hails, had paid for renovations to the house of Gani's second wife in Seremban 2.Cash vouchers dated Aug 12, 2009, and extensive bills and invoices charged to Ho Hup for the renovation were posted on the blog to prove this allegation.
Malaysia Today also reported a purported meeting between Gani and Lye, with a picture of the two together, after with Gani took action against Lye's rival TC Low by charging Low in court.
Phang said this revelation would surely destroy any credibility left in the AG's Chambers.
"It appears that criminal prosecution is instituted at the whims and fancies of Gani, not on the basis of right or wrong but on might is right," he said.
'If MACC can investigate me, why not AG?'
Phang pointed out that he had previously criticised Gani for his haj trip with former MAS chairperson Tajudin's Ramli's proxy, Shahidan Shafie."Instead of taking action against Gani, alarmingly, I was subjected to an immediate investigation by the MACC, based on a false allegation in an anonymous blog.
"I was publicly humiliated, but the MACC operations evaluation panel chairperson Dr Hadenan Abdul Jalil only conditionally cleared me."My demands for an unconditional and unequivocal clearance have yet to receive any response from the MACC," he addeed.Phang further said the invoices, receipts and cheque posted on the blog were very clear.
"It does not require complex forensic accounting. These documents paint a thousand words about the alleged renovation works done for Gani's bungalow in Seremban 2."The documents constitute clear evidence of corrupt gratification. The MACC must show independence and courage by acting swiftly to investigate this matter," he said.
Phang said the BN government under Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had to address and solve many corruption issues that have surfaced, particularly the latest one involving Gani."This is very serious, more so that it is surfacing in the holy month of Ramadan. The rakyat need to know, and certainly Gani has to enlighten the rakyat on the truth."

Anonymous_3f35 Lets not have ramon navaratnam coming to
gani patail's rescue again by clearing him of wrongdoings
DNA As usual, MACC will not investigate because they are
impotent and Gani will deny all the allegations. The government, AG's chambers,
MACC, Police, Judiciary and all the other government lack creditably. When
tainted Najis lacks creditably, what do you expect from those in the various
departments?
neders "It is easier for a camel to pass through the
eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of
heaven".He has paid his Zakat, prays 5 times a day, fasted this holy month
and performed the Umrah recently (albeit, on somebody else's account) and he
thinks he has the right to enter Syurga when his time is up. Sorry mate, it does'nt
work that way.
Anonymous_3fc0 AG is typical umno fellow, how can save from
corruption
Abasir As if we need any more proof of the irrepairable
damage done to this country during the 22 years under the 'supreme leader',
this case merely highlights one fact. Malaysia is a crippled state which is
doomed to hobble along painfully on the crutches of incompetence and corruption
while all other nations take confident strides towards continual growth and
betterment.
citizen MACC stands for MALAYSIA ADA CORRUPTION DAN
COMMISSION!!!! May be we need another corruption agency to look into MACC.
Hahahaha to
Paul Warren Robert Phang said, "Gani has again
courted controversy, this time with a revelation in Malaysia Today on Aug 24.
If the allegation is not thoroughly investigated, it will be perceived badly by
the rakyat..." Actually Robert is wrong in his estimation of the rakyat
here. We, the rakyat, have come to the point that we expect someone like Gani
would already be corrupt and that he would be gaining from such that was
written about and alleged in Malaysia-today. What would have been unusual to us
would be if he was absolutely clean. Such people surely cannot hold high office
anyway. Only compromised people are elevated to such positions of
responsibility. We would, however, appreciate it if people like Robert stop
making these allegations of our good officers who keep meeting with our
estimations and expectations.
Raj 5503 Can someone please slap this numbskull of an AG
silly and then kick his ass silly so that it bleeds and then he can plant
DSAI's DNA on his arse and then claim that DSAI has "upped him". I
don't know how else we sane Malaysians can tackle such nonsense anymore!
Perhaps we need to get insane! Does anyone other Malaysians ( except those
Indonesians who have been granted citizenship so that they can vote for such
idiots) give me a better idea! Please I beg you before I go insane!
tigerman No way MACC will act on Asshole General coz MACC
are given inmunity within the enforcement circle .Among all the enforcement
units , only MACC are given the inmunity where their cant be questioned for any
of their doings . A great way of keeping them in their remote control .
Bolehland gone to the dogs !!!!!!
zubir Gua jaga lu, lu jaga gua......welcome to bolehland
BetulNya This AG .......... stands for ' AsHole General '
?
rick teo We have a weak leader in Najib who cannot even
control his deputy. If it was mamakthir he would have charged Muhyiddin for
corruption or sodomy. So how to expect a weak leader to do the honest thing by
charging Gani. MACC is a dead wood organisation only good for makan gaji buta.
In order to improve we have to change the govt and replace the whole public
instituition. Otherwise this nation is doomed.
Kgen It'sa too BIG for the MACC to act. They only dare to
act against opposition members which they will pursue assidiously on suspicion
of thousand ringgit corruption.
pity him !!!!! It's remarkable all comments thus far are
so civil towards a man who is a clear cut ......... My nation has been
destroyed by so many of these personalities. Pray that all these fellows are
kicked out at the next GE and hold them accountable. Remember they are not
untouchables. Even Marcos,Mubarak and col. Gadafi have their day hunted down.
cala Is Gani in big trouble this time? Can he get away
once more? Many of us would have written off Ling Liong Sik (ex- MCA president,
and ex- transport minister) as a fallen politician. Still as the Chinese saying
goes: a wrecked ship may be worthless, the iron content may be sold for a
couple of dollars. I am referring to his "famous" quote: If a fish
rots, it first rots from the head. UMNO- led BN regime does not rot yesterday.
It began to rot in Mahathir's time (Wain, 2009). So if Robert Phang is
challenging attorney general Gani to come clean on the alleged corrupt practice
involving the latter and Ho Hup, in theory it is an uphill task to prove
innocence. By the way, where is this Seremban Two anyway? If a high profile
personality is staying there, surely more buyers will be attracted there given
this type of publicity. So where is Seremban Two?
MAHINDAR SINGH It is so obvious that BN has lost the moral
right to rule this country. BN cannot have the present leaders ruling the govt.
As the mufti said BN is perceived a very corrupt instituition and has no
strength to do away with corruption.
LLKS RAKYAT I TOLD YOU FROM THE BEGINING. AG IS
CORRUPTED.SEKARANG MACHAM MANA. IGP PUN SAMA TAKE MY WORD.
Vijay47 Like millions of Malaysians, I am also baying for
Gani Patail's hide and waiting for the sweet day of his comeuppance.
Nevertheless, the sheer stupidity of what such an act would reveal makes me
hesitate to believe this latest item. Here is a man whose every move is closely
monitored and numerous allegations are made against every month or so. Almost
as many as the Christians are subjected to! Bearing that in mind, would anyone,
even an imbecile like Ibrahim Ali, go out and invite further trouble like
getting favoured members of the public pay his house renovation bills? The jury
is still out on this.
Disgusted Another untouchable protected for taking care of
Najib and Rosmah and UMNO buddies. AG indeed. MACC is toothless to act waiting
for orders from AG ?
JBGUY Lets see how serious Najib is in fighting
corruption. Is he going to remain silent and bury his head in the sand like the
proverbial ostrich or will he awake from his slumber and demand quick action be
instituted against the tainted AG? We the rakyat await his reaction or inaction
to decide if BN needs to be given a chance at reforming itself.
Kit P A person cannot act as the decision maker on his own
case. That's basic Ethics 101, which Gani Patail may or may not understand. In
Malaysia, the AG makes the decision whether to proceed with prosecuting a
criminal case. Since this case involves the AG himself, he must step aside for
the duration of the investigation.
one brain cell
MACC will have to consult the AG before pressing charges against him. That's
how Mahathir rigged the "legal" system so the AG controls the
judiciary while the PM controls the AG. In the end, it all goes back to the
enormous power concentrated in the hands of the reigning PM. Such
overcentralization is absolutely dangerous and no longer tolerable to a
politically conscious rakyat
Anonymous_417c How on Earth does this AG remain so
thick-skinned that he can pretend day after day that nothing has happened and
continue like a virtuous person in the barrage of evidence of his crookedness?
Isn't there a righteous person in the entire judiciary who can ask him to
resign until his innocence is proven?
Paul Kerangkas Phang, you should know that our Malaysian
law is only good and operative to the poor people. Big people will not be
touched. Even if touched it was only 'wayang kulit'. Full stop.
docs I don't think those spineless, gutless and ballness
fellows at MACC are going to go after AG Abdul Gani (Mr. Corruption Himself)
Patail.
Onyourtoes Again Dear PM, do you need foreign advisors to
tell you how to turn around the people's support for you? There are so many
allegations and accusations, some of which are very specific. So why can't
investigation be carried. Why do you expect the rakyat to stomach everything?
iveD PHANG, the only solution is to throw UMNO-BN out. If
not corruption still exists. There will be no end to it.
Anonymous_3fc4 MACC's Abu Kassim is a Lame Duck, has no
integrity, incapable in his job and most likely a Tool of Putrajaya. Abu Kassim
is in collusion with AG Gani Patail, "you help me, I will help you".
Both are in the same Fucking corruption.
Anonymous_3f68 MACC is not only impotent but STERILE. What
act against this Bullfrog of an AG. You got to be kidding ! Never possible in
NAJIS land.
Anonymous_3ec6
Hope MACC pushes this guy off the top floor and say he jumped.. MACC will never
touch him.. that much everyone knows.. they go only for opposition parties .
artchan What next? AG is crooked is a fact.
Anonymous_40dc Come on MACC... show that you can act
without fear or favour!
rubystar_4037 Thank you Mr Phang for being vocal again,
without fear or favor of being persecuted again for imaginary slights by the
evil AG. The AG has done enough damage to the judiciary and law and order of
Malaysia and to pervert the course of justice over and over again that I am
confused that he is still being retained as AG by our dear PM. Is it because
there is no suitable candidate to replace him or is this AG has amassed such a
lot of black dossiers on the powers that be that he is untouchable. Mtoday has
highlighted a lot of his wrong doings but AG does not give two hoots, what
really has become of our beloved country?
Anonymous_3ec6
GOD is Great..you reap what you sow.. God's punishment maybe late but it come
eventually for all the sins AG Gani Patail has done to others.. Praise the
Lord.
