AN URGENT AND FINAL APPEAL TO MARIA CHIN ABDULLAH – PLEASE RECONSIDER BERSIH 4 RALLY – THINK!!!

28th August 2015.

PRESS STATEMENT BY:-
TAN SRI DATUK ROBERT PHANG MIOW SIN
JUSTICE OF THE PEACE.
CHAIRMAN – SOCIAL CARE FOUNDATION

We do not have much time to ponder on this issue.

The message you intend to spread is loud and clear.  I believe majority of us will go along and support the mission.  However, please take into consideration there is a possibility of this rally getting out of control.  That is the biggest concern for the most of us.

Malaysia at this point, does not carrying a positive image in the eyes of the foreigners.  Please therefore do not further escalate this negative image any further.

I still appeal to you to hold this rally at a later date even if it is to be held at Dataran Merdeka.  Your objective of holding it at Dataran Merdeka is because as you have mentioned the venue is known worldwide.  Please kindly and mindfully take into consideration the avoidable suffering of the two parties i.e. the ignorant and the innocent Rakyat. How do you feel it???

Please do kindly reconsider to avoid irrevocable and possible ugliness.

The ball is at your feet.

MERDEKA, MERDEKA, MERDEKA!!!

Bersih 4 organiser asked to consider venue change

Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah has been urged not to 'create havoc' by insisting on having the Bersih 4 rally at Dataran Merdeka.
Social Care Foundation chairperson Robert Phang said this in his 'appeal' to Maria Chin to be 'sensible' over the matter.
"Maria Chin, please do not create anymore havoc or negative impact for Malaysia on foreigners and even our own rakyat over your insistence of having the Bersih 4 rally at Dataran Merdeka.
"After all, your main objective and mission is to ensure the voice of the rakyat is heard. Surely but truly, it would be better and well-organised if the rally can be held at Bukit Jalil," he said in a statement today.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz yesterdayquashed Bersih's plan to hold its rally at the iconic Dataran Merdeka on Aug 29 and 30.
Amin Nordin said this was because Dataran Merdeka would be used for preparations and rehearsals ahead of the Merdeka Day parade there on Aug 31.
Maria, however, has said the Bersih 4 rally - would still be held in the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka as scheduled.
Phang (photo) also claimed that Maria was not a 'proper' spokesperson and as such she could not guarantee that the crowd on that could be controlled.
"The Kuala Lumpur mayor and the police are the people in a better position who can ensure that the rally does not turn into an ugly situation.
'Unpleasantness' factor
"Please do not be stubborn as you need to take into consideration the livelihood of the rakyat in the business sector. If there should be any unpleasantness, these people will be greatly affected," added Phang.
Urging Maria to be sensible and to reconsider her decision, he added: "Please do reconsider to change the venue or postpone to a later date as advised by the Kuala Lumpur mayor.”

The electoral reform coalition is organsing the 34-hour mammoth rally on Aug 29 and 30 in wake of public uproar over the 1MDB scandal and RM2.6 billion political donation to in Najib's personal bank accounts.
Bersih has urged Najib to go on leave pending investigations into the alleged RM2.6 billion ‘political funding’.
The coalition gave the premier one month to respond to its demands but lamented that Najib had not only no intention to allow a probe to be carried out independently but that he even obstructed the investigations.

Letters - Reconsider rally site

MARINA Chin, please do not create any more havoc or negative impact for Malaysia vis-a-vis foreigners and even our own rakyat by your insistence to have the Bersih 4 Rally at Dataran Merdeka.

After all, your main objective and mission is to ensure the voice of the rakyat is heard. Surely but truly, it would be better and well organised if the rally can be held at Bukit Jalil – it is a good environment, and bear in mind the need to prevent any unnecessary problems, namely avoiding any possible riots, etc.

You are not a proper spokesperson who can guarantee that the crowd at the rally can be controlled. The Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur and the police are in a better position to ensure that the rally does not turn ugly.

Please do not be stubborn as you need to take into consideration the livelihood of the rakyat in the business sector. If there should be any unpleasantness, these people will be greatly affected.

Please Marina Chin, be sensible and do kindly reconsider your decision. If anything untoward happens, you will be held responsible. Please do reconsider to change the venue or postpone to a later date as advised by the Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur.

M'sia riskier than Mexico, UBS warns worse to come

Malaysia is paying the price for weak foreign currency holdings and messy politics as the cost to protect its debt soars to near a four-year high. UBS Group AG predicts even more pain ahead.
The spread on the nation’s credit-default swaps widened 74 basis points in 2015 to 180 this week, a level not seen since October 2011. It's the worst performing in Asia and almost 40 basis points more than similar-rated oil-producer Mexico, which the Swiss bank says best illustrates the malaise for Malaysia.
"The moves in CDS are telling us that the market is increasingly nervous about the central bank's ability to manage the foreign-exchange selloff in light of its relatively light reserves position," said Manik Narain, a London-based strategist at UBS. "Malaysia's situation may now be more precarious."
Bank Negara Malaysia's foreign-exchange reserves slipped below US$100 billion last month for the first time since 2010. They look "increasingly meagre" by emerging-market standards, said Narain, and compare with foreigners' RM206.8 billion (US$50.6 billion) holdings of local-currency debt in July, the lowest in three years.
The ringgit this week traded near the weakest level since 1998 as Prime Minister Najib Razak comes under the spotlight over reports of an almost US$700 million donation into his bank account that was initially linked to debt-ridden state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
The central bank may have to raise interest rates because of a limited ability to defend the currency amid falling reserves, Narain said. The ringgit was trading at 4.09 per dollar at 10.18am in Kuala Lumpur and UBS expects the currency to fall to 4.20 by year-end.
