Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak dies

Sultan of Perak, Raja Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, passed away today at the age of 86.

In making the announcement, Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir said the ruler died at 1.30pm at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur.

His remains will be taken to the palace in Kuala Kangsar tomorrow morning and buried at the royal mausoleum there after Asar (mid-afternoon) prayers.

Tomorrow will be a public holiday in Perak as the state will be in mourning.

No entertainment or celebrations will be allowed in the state for seven days until June 4.

The Malaysian flag will also fly at half mast until June 4, while the Perak flag will fly half mast for 100 days starting today.

"May Allah bless his soul," Zambry said.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is in Beijing to celebrate of 40 years Malaysia-China diplomacy, will board a flight home tonight.

Sarawak CM approves RM1 million for ex-DAP leader’s cancer treatment

The Sarawak government has approved aid amounting to RM1 million to meet the medical expenses of former Sarawak DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng who is suffering from cancer.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said today the aid was given on humanitarian grounds following a request from Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

"I have instructed the (State) Ministry of Finance to issue a cheque for RM1 million (to cover Wong's medical expenses)," he said when winding up his speech at the state assembly in Kuching.

Wong, the assemblyman for Bukit Assek, had been suffering from brain cancer since last year and requires treatment in Singapore.

He was brought back to Sibu recently and is said to be in a coma.
