Anwar's Cabinet, another 'scam'?

                                      "ROBERT PHANG TALKS"

"Kabinet Anwar: the whole country kena scam", I read on Facebook this weekend. Malaysia is renowned for its trolling industry; it also is home to many scammers who trick Malaysians first. Is the new prime minister one of them?

The feeling of distrust among voters was very high before GE15 and disinterest among the youth-led many observers to believe that the voter turnout would be low. After the Sheraton Move that saw the Pakatan Harapan (PH) majority overthrown in favor of an alliance led by Umno-Bersatu, many citizens felt like they had been scammed. After all, the Perikatan Nasional-Umno combo was not they had voted for.

However, far from causing disinterest, the disaffection for Malaysian political leaders in fact led to a great turnout on polling day – a little over 73%. Another surprise at this election was that while many observers assumed the wave of young voters and first-time voters, largely young Malay males, would translate into votes for PH, first-time voters undeniably gave their support to PAS (49 seats), increased Bersatu’s influence (from 13 seats in 2018 to 24) and rejected its liberal Malay alternative Umno (down from 54 to 26 seats) and the multi-cultural alternative PKR (down from 47 to 31 seats).

This means that while the Sheraton Move was certainly another distortion of the country’s political history – which had remained rather linear until 2018 – it did not translate in a loss of support for PN.

The economic tremors in the post-Covid-19 era raised a nostalgia for the old days of stability: those were the days of Umno. However, the overlap between Umno and the numerous court scandals added to the factionalism that did not resolve and in fact annihilated Umno's image of stability.

GE15 was indeed a plebiscite for the other oldest and most stable political force in the country, PAS, and its ally Bersatu. Meanwhile, PH continued its prevalence in urban and non-Malay majority constituencies. Yet no party or coalition succeeded in obtaining a single majority, and Malaysia for the first time experienced a hung parliament.

The drama and intense negotiations that followed increased voters' anxiety, compounded by an unfamiliarity with the democratic process. In fact, a hung parliament followed by a long period of negotiations between parties and coalitions is a normal (democratic) exercise. Belgium surely holds the world record of functioning without a government for 592 days. However, the Agong saw things differently, urging coalitions to form a unity government to ensure the fair representation of voters’ voices.

The antagonistic position of PN leaders against Anwar Ibrahim and the Umno court cluster gave Anwar a highway to form an alliance with his former enemy and the big loser of GE15, the Umno-led BN. Soon, the new allies were joined by Muda, GPS, GRS, and other smaller parties.

At the same time, the rise of racial threats further amplified Malaysians’ anxiety in an unfamiliar political territory. The threat of political chaos and a possible return of the May 1969 violence have been largely cultivated by political parties for years. It is thus unsurprising that the ghost of May 13 was used one more time to trigger fear and play on public opinion.

Two narratives emerged: for some, beyond reformasi, Anwar became the democratic fortress against the "danger" of a conservative Islamic government, while for many Malays, the power seized by a non-Malay majority coalition would be the end of their political hegemony and a threat to their economic privileges (privileges and policies that in fact failed to eradicate poverty among Malays but mostly satisfied the middle class and elite).

In this first narrative, the alliance between PH and Umno was depicted as the lesser evil, and the expansion of their alliance to the Bornean coalitions eased the idea of a dangerous liaison and justified the term "unity government".

In the second narrative, PAS offered the guarantee of the preservation of Malay rights, while Bersatu represented a perfect image of Umno minus the scandals and the factionalism (or less factionalism, at least). The semantic of unity vs coalition government remains a subject of discussion today, as PN argues that there cannot be unity without its inclusion – an invitation it denied.

Rather than being a pure racial or ethnic question, the PH-Umno extended political family versus PN feud is in fact a class conflict. When looking at the vote share of PH and PN, we see clearly that the urban elite largely voted for PH while the rural folks voted for PN.

Urban Malay elites surely do not wish for their liberal lifestyle to be questioned by a conservative Islamic government (that would include some of the members of this very same government), and these concerns closely align with non-Malay interests.

Meanwhile, the Malay rural and urban lower-income folks who may have been disappointed by the Umno scandals wish to secure what they believe is the only way for them to maintain a decent living (again, the failures of the NEP are rarely exposed).

Anwar announced his Cabinet on Friday with five Umno ministers and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as his deputy. While the co-optation of Umno by PH was a strategy, supported by the king, to form a majority, it was also a violent silencing of the Malay voice.

The reformasi agenda promoted by Anwar for over 20 years has faded over the past few years with the marginalization of some of the key PKR voices. Anwar has had to make many difficult compromises to build his majority, and GE15 proved undeniably that his persona and agenda do not appeal to the Malay masses.

For his government to survive, Umno needs to pacify the hearts and souls of the Malays, "mission impossible" in a context where PN leaders have openly declared themselves as the government-in-waiting, a reference to Anwar's former title of PM-in-waiting.

Anwar will have to navigate very carefully for his government to stabilize the country. After years of struggle, he inherits an extremely sensitive social context, and economic distress enhanced by high political fluidity.

Scams, schemes, and (no) shame seem forever linked to Malaysian politics, and these notes have left deeper marks in the recent history of the country. However, the Cabinet of the day, whether scammers-schemers-shamers or reformists-optimists-capitalists, may be able to unite on issues and policies that have dominated Parliament discussions for years: offering an equal voice and future for Sabah and Sarawak, and implementing overdue legal reforms for social justice and the expansion of civil liberties. Harapan may not be entirely lost.

OVERDONE

PRISON DEPARTMENT – DO NOT DENY PRIVILEGES TO NAJIB AS A DULY ELECTED MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT

I read with interest and utter disappointment that the Prison Department has rejected Najib’s bid to attend the Dewan Rakyat.  The Prison Department must remember that Najib has been duly elected by the Rakyat to be the MP of Pekan and therefore must fulfil his elected duties as the MP of Pekan.

It is truly absurd and unacceptable for the Prison Department to deny this request on such a trivial issue highlighting that reason being is because of security grounds. Yes, Najib is a convict but do not deny him his elected duty as an elected MP by the Rakyat to attend the Dewan Rakyat. The Prison Department must rescind and right the wrong decision.

‘Good move to appoint non-civil servant as KL mayor’

PETALING JAYA: The appointment of a mayor who is not part of the civil service will prove to be a breath of fresh air as he would bring a different perspective on how the nation’s largest city, Kuala Lumpur, should be governed.

Former Transport Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam said everyone who served as the city’s mayor had been a civil servant and brought along a civil service mentality of doing things only in a certain way.

He said another problem with appointing civil servants is that they would also feel beholden to those in power, follow the ideas of the government for the city, and not look at how effective those ideas would be.

“The proposal to appoint a non-civil servant such as Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye will be good for Kuala Lumpur as he has lived here nearly all his life and knows more about the city than civil servants.

“He has shown dedication, commitment and integrity, which are all qualities needed to do the job without fear or favour. He is a person who will put the people of the city first and vested interests at the very bottom.”

Ramon, who is chairman of the Centre for Public Policy Studies at the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute, said having a Malaysian outlook, identity and perspective are important to make Kuala Lumpur a dynamic and vibrant city.

He said the public sees Lee as a simple, honest and humble man.

“He is a person who has no airs of grandeur. Having a non-civil servant will be a step forward.

“By appointing Lee as Kuala Lumpur mayor, the government will show the people it is serious about change and is putting them above everything else.

“Appointing him may be the start to bringing leaders from other races to lead important institutions.”

theSun columnist Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, who is also a former chairman and chief executive officer of Bernama, said major cities around the world have appointed mayors from among outstanding public personalities outside the civil service.

He said he decided to put forward the idea of appointing Lee as Kuala Lumpur mayor because of his outstanding achievements and his relentless public service.

Azman quoted the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as saying: “I have witnessed with my very own eyes how impressive his many years of serving the rakyat are.

“Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye is a real YB which can be translated also as Yang Berkerja (one who works) and Yang Berkhidmat (one who serves).”

Social activist Tan Sri Robert Phang said it is a good idea to have someone outside the civil service to be named as Kuala Lumpur's mayor.

He said the better idea would be to allow the public to choose the person best suited to run the city.

Former UKM vice-chancellor Tan Sri Anuwar Ali said he supported the idea of appointing Lee as the next mayor as he is the most suitable candidate and is well respected by the public.

He added that Lee, in his various roles, had highlighted his concerns on issues such as housing, health and education in our society.

Ramon said the proposal to appoint Lee as mayor will be good for Kuala Lumpur as he has lived in the city nearly all his life.

No party should intimidate judiciary: Social activist

PETALING JAYA: The judiciary should not be intimidated by any organisation as it is an independent body that is the guardian of justice for everyone.

Social activist Tan Sri Robert Phang said any type of probe involving a judge must be above board.

“The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had said its investigation was not based on a blogger’s claims on social media platforms but three formal complaints and reports lodged with the commission.

“The question MACC has failed to answer is what was the basis of the three reports, who made them and why. If it was based on the blogger’s claim, then MACC should also investigate the blogger and those who made the reports,” he told theSun.

Phang said every time someone is unhappy with a judge’s decision, they may resort to making allegations about the judge.

“If this becomes a trend, it will hurt the judiciary,” he said.

He asked whether MACC will investigate every single allegation made against judges or just pick and choose what it wants.

“It must be remembered that for MACC to carry out its duty successfully it must have the trust and support of the public.

“Any action that can erode this trust should be avoided as it would make the MACC an ineffective body,” said Phang, a former MACC advisory board member.

Phang said it is easy to make allegations that can tarnish a person’s reputation and MACC must be aware that its investigations can hurt a person’s reputation if the claims are ultimately baseless.

Phang was commenting on Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali being investigated by MACC over allegations of unexplained money in his account.

Mohd Nazlan was the judge who convicted former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over the misappropriation of RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.

On April 20, fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin posted an article titled “Judge Mohd Nazlan being investigated for unexplained RM1 million in his bank account” on his Malaysia Today website.

Mohd Nazlan filed a police report on the allegation made against him in the blog post.

Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat in a speech recently said judges are not beyond criticism, but “the public, including politicians, must not level unfounded and scurrilous attacks against the judiciary to further their ends”.

MACC said recently it had completed its investigations into the allegations against Mohd Nazlan and had handed over the investigation papers to the attorney-general.

Phang said whatever it may say, MACC cannot be seen to be conducting “selective investigations”.

REVOKE TAJUDDN’S AMBASSADORIAL APPOINTMENT IMMEDIATELY

PRESS STATEMENT BY:-
TAN SRI DATUK ROBERT PHANG MIOW SIN.
JUSTICE OF THE PEACE.
CHAIRMAN – SOCIAL CARE FOUNDATION

Many of the Rakyat agree with Patriot’s verdict on the appointment of Tajuddin.  It must be made known as to why such a controversial figure like Tajuddin, be appointed to such an esteemed and honourable position.  Surely but truly there are many more highly qualified and good character persons for the YAB PM to consider seriously.

Majority of the Rakyat do not question YAB PM’s authority but perhaps definitely a better candidate should be considered.  It has been said that Tajuddin’s appointment bears a lot of untold stories.  Please do bear in mind, even as the YAB PM has assured that Indonesia has welcomed this appointment, many of the Rakyat think otherwise.

The pride and dignity of our beloved country will question and many think upon this appointment.  The public consent and worry is slowly growing with an overwhelming protest of the appointment.  The veteran UMNO lawmaker Tajuddin has often made the news but mostly for the wrong reasons especially his antics, whether in or out of the Parliament. The most recent being the callous and ridiculous response to the Kelana Jaya LRT collision which caused many of the LRT patrons to be injured, some seriously.

Please take note that Patriot is joined by numerous disapproval including former Bar Council and Bersih leader Ambiga Sreenevasan, which in turn has stated that Tajuddin’s appointment was a political move to reward Tajuddin for his hand in keeping a government with a tenuous majority in power.  Ha, Ha, nothing short of an explanation is mandatory to the Rakyat.

To put it in prospective, the appointment of Tajuddin as our country’s Ambassador to Indonesia is nothing less than a GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT AND AN UTTER DISGRACE.

Anti-graft panel should be elected '

PETALING JAYA: Members of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Committee should be elected instead of being appointed by the government, said former committee member Tan Sri Robert Phang, adding that the committee should have one member from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), two legal representatives and three elected members.

“The elected members must be people of good standing. This is one of the ways to restore public trust in the agency. MACC must also be transparent in every action it takes to show the public that there is no bias when it carries out its duties.”

Phang said the MACC chief commissioner must be ready to explain to the committee the reasons for the commission's actions.

He added that the head of MACC should state reasons for his actions when asked by the committee, and elected members are needed to alleviate public distrust.

“In doing this, the public would feel that they also have to say in the way MACC is run,” he said.

Recently, certain actions by MACC had caused the public to question the reasons the agency had initiated certain investigations.

“When committee members are appointed by the government, there can always be an element of favouritism. They may try to help certain people associated with them.

“The committee may also be biased towards certain people while some committee members might just be afraid to speak out as they may fear repercussions.”

Phang said there was a need for outspoken committee members as they would be able to reign in the MACC head if he steps out of line, adding that the more outspoken the committee members, the better it would be as the agency would realize that it will be held to account by those who are part of it.

He said this would also make those in charge of MACC tread carefully and not just do whatever they wished, and this can be done if just three of the committee members are elected by the public, allowing the committee to act without fear or favour.

Phang added that decisions made by the committee should also be open to scrutiny, not only by Parliament but also by the public.

“Transparency and integrity should become the bywords in MACC and for the committee to show the public that they have nothing to hide when taking action. This would also help ensure fairness and rebuild public trust.”

He said it was also important for the public to speak out whenever they see any wrongdoing and that by having elected committee members, the public would feel protected by them when speaking out against wrongdoings.

Tunship proposed for Kit Siang

KUALA LUMPUR: Prominent social activist Tan Sri Robert Phang has proposed that the government bestow the title of Tun – the nation’s highest award – on former DAP strongman Lim Kit Siang for his 56 years of political service and having been the longest-serving parliamentarian without fear or favour.

Phang, who is chairman of the Social Care Foundation, said as the opposition leader until his retirement from politics over the weekend, Lim had been a pillar of the parliamentary democracy system practised in the country – a record that would highly unlikely to be equalled by other politicians.

“Malaysia practises a parliamentary system after Britain’s Westminster model with both Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament. In Britain, the leader of the opposition ranks very high in the order of protocol.

“My proposal is apolitical and purely based on according long-overdue recognition to a towering figure in our political history who has contributed immensely to making our democracy alive and kicking. And I sincerely believe, nothing short of a Tunship is fitting for Lim Kit Siang,” Phang told theSun.

Lim, he said, had been through five decades of thick and thin in the nation’s post-Independence political history, unflinching in his political struggle for a better and more inclusive Malaysia, even spending some years as an Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee.

And, contrary to what his critics had labelled him, Lim had shown to be a true and loyal Malaysian, and DAP’s record as the party that had, over the decades, been a very well-organised political entity that continuously managed to secure a commanding mandate at federal and state levels was due to the unwavering support for Lim’s stewardship.

He said although DAP is reputed to be Chinese-centric, it has a sizeable non-Chinese membership base as well as a multi-racial mix of elected representatives.

Phang echoed the sentiment expressed by Dewan Negara President Tan Sri Rais Yatim, who said yesterday that Lim deserved due recognition including an award befitting his service.

Where are we at right now?

IT is saddening for me to note that our country over the past few years has regressed both domestically and on the international front.

Malaysia, which previously ranked ahead of most of our fellow ASEAN member nations in terms of economic progress and governance, has now fallen behind.

What is obvious and is practically felt by most Malaysians is the feeling that there have been too much politics and politicking since the 2018 general election.

There is no such thing as political peace that generally follows after the people have delivered their mandate in an election. Instead, the country and people are suffering from political fatigue. And they are fed up. And this is happening in a nation that once proudly boasted of political stability and was the envy of many.

Our international image has been badly battered by the 1MDB saga, that has been described by foreign media as the world’s biggest ever financial scandal. Just as we thought the 1MDB scandal was taking a respite, more explosive details of how Malaysia was milked off by tens of billions have been revealed in an ongoing trial in New York of a former Goldman Sachs banker.

Domestically, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri has announced that the government is allowing another one-off withdrawal of RM10,000 for Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributors from April 20. This will be the third such withdrawal over two years since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, to tide over the financial woes of the B40 households who have been worst hit via job losses and unemployment.

Such frequent withdrawals mean millions of contributors are facing a bleak old age financial future, with the media reporting that some 50% of the total EPF contributors have less than RM10,000 balance as of now.

The previous two withdrawals by some 7.3 million, or half of the total contributors, have depleted EPF funds by a whopping RM101 billion.

With the latest withdrawals beginning next month, economists and the layman are deeply concerned about EPF’s ability to maintain a decent annual dividend rate moving forward.

It is of utmost importance now for politicians, especially those running the country, both at federal and state levels, to get their act together by putting aside their selfish interests to mitigate the damage they have done so far.

Since the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018, self-created political instability has forced three states to hold snap elections, something that could have been avoided and saved taxpayers a few hundred million ringgit.

In the first three years after GE14, Malaysia has had four prime ministers, something no county can ever be proud of. And now Umno, the nation’s dominant party, basking in its landslide election wins in both Malacca and Johor, is upping the pressure for a snap GE15 as well.

This has been met with a resounding “No” from at least six state governments so far, whose leaders have said they will not dissolve the state legislative assemblies should GE15 be held this year instead of the scheduled one only a year from now. Bravo to them.

The rakyat has every right to demand for politicians who are bent on disrupting our once cherished political stability at their whims and fancies to do the most honourable thing – to step down gracefully before more damage is done.

In this regards, I urge Putrajaya to expedite without any further delay the presentation of the Anti-Hopping law during the current sitting of Parliament. I also urge our Members of Parliament as well senators to buck up and to live up to the people’s expectations. Many would agree that most of them are warming their seats at the taxpayers’ expense.

With Covid-19 still raging and our elected representatives both at federal and state levels still free to jump from Party A to Party B, we need a strong political will to fix all the wrongs that are undermining the country’s future.

At the outset, I asked where are we at right now? And the rakyat at large must be saying “Enough is enough”.

CHAIRMAN – SOCIAL CARE FOUNDATION

DEAR YB TAN SRI MUHYIDDIN YASSIN,

I read with interest and curiosity an article published by FMT that quoted “NAJIB RECEIVES HUGE CROWD BECAUSE PEOPLE WANT TO SEE A CRIMINAL”, which was stated by you.  I think with our fundamental budi bahasa upbringing this is not pleasant to say and extremely unnecessary.  Damage has already been done and created.

After all, Najib is still appealing against his sentencing and in this aspect, we have to respect thus refrain from belittling others – RESPECT BEGETS RESPECT.  This is the best philosophy of life, please practice this and let the court decide on Najib’s fate

Sir, for whatever reason, if and only if, Najib gets away and at all odds, until proven at the last resort, HE WILL REMAIN A FREEMAN. Even Najib has a slim, a very slim chance to get away and should not be therefore be deemed as a criminal.  Give it a thought, Tan Sri Muhyiddin.

Sir, you are a gentleman and a good Muslim.  Again I say, please refrain from repeating this issue – negativity in mannerism.

STAY HOME AND STAY SAFE.

Soft stance not ideal to fight graft: Ex-MACC panel member

PETALING JAYA: The move by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to reduce charges or issue compound notices does not bode well for the fight against graft.

Former MACC advisory board panel member Tan Sri Robert Phang yesterday called for the full brunt of the law to be brought down on those caught for wrongdoing.

He said reducing the charges or issuing compounds will only encourage others to ignore the law.

“They know that if they are caught, they can plead with MACC to either compound them or have their charges reduced. How do you (expect) the public to place their trust in such an institution?”

Phang cited the example of former Sabah Water Department deputy director Teo Chee Keong, who was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal and had to pay an RM30 million compound.

Teo, 58, was facing 146 money laundering charges, involving land titles, cash and bank accounts, amounting to RM32.93 million.

Phang said that Teo only paid a compound of RM30 million.

“To top this off, when there is wrongdoing by a MACC officer, it is the commission that conducts the investigation.”

Phang questioned how there could be impartiality when MACC conducts its own investigations.

He said an independent body, and not MACC itself, is needed to investigate its officers involved in wrongdoings.

He cited MACC senior officer Shahrum Nizam Baharuddin, 41, who reportedly went on a RM2.71 million spending spree.

Shahrum was accused of misappropriating US$6.94 million seized by the commission at the MACC special action branch chief’s room.

Phang said Shahrum was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with a jail term of up to 20 years, whipping and a fine.

He said the prosecution offered an alternative charge under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of not less than six months and not more than five years, with whipping and a fine.

He questioned how such actions were allowed.

“The issue of counterfeit money involving MACC officers has still not been properly explained, although only Shahrum had been charged and sentenced.

“How did the officer get hold of the counterfeit money? Who else was involved? Have those involved in printing the counterfeit money been arrested and charged?”

Phang said whether it is an old or new issue, MACC must provide an explanation to the public.

‘Fight corruption not whistleblowers'

Going after those who try to expose wrongdoings will dampen public confidence in MACC, says social activist

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should fight corruption instead of going after those who expose wrongdoings, says social activist Tan Sri Robert Phang.

Phang said going after whistleblowers may discourage the public from exposing wrongdoings.

“This will only lead down one path: more corruption. Suing someone who has exposed some wrongdoing is not the right way to go about it.

“MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki should not have filed a defamation suit against anti-graft activist Lalitha Kunaratnam.

“Instead he should have come out immediately to explain what had occurred,” Phang told theSun.

He wondered how the public could place their faith in the anti-graft body when its head failed to satisfactorily explain the share transaction (issue) but filed a legal suit instead.

Phang said we need to have our faith in MACC restored and the only way to do so is for Azam to go on garden leave while an independent body conducts an investigation into the issue.

He said we also need to go further by placing MACC under the purview of Parliament to allow proper scrutiny of its actions.

Phang, who was a former adviser to the MACC corruption prevention panel, said the fight against corruption is an on-going effort and we cannot have people in charge of MACC suing whistleblowers.

He pointed out that the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 gives protection to those who expose wrongdoings. “What is the use of the Act if the MACC head can file a defamation suit against a whistleblower?” he asked.

He also questioned the need for senior MACC officers – deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Norazlan Mohd Razali and deputy chief commissioner (management and professionalism) Datuk Junipah Wandi – to express their support for Azam.

He said instead of going out to fight graft, these officers seem to have a lot of time on hand to do other things.

“We desperately need a change of mindset in the government; action must be taken against officers such as (asking them to) go on garden leave until it can be proven they are innocent.

“If the government continues to turn a blind eye, the public will lose confidence not only in the government but also MACC,” he said.

Azam, who is mired in a proxy stock trading issue, had explained that his share trading account had been used by his younger brother Nasir Baki to purchase shares in 2015.

The explanation was made after it was reported that Azam had significant shareholdings in several companies.

He denied any wrongdoing and said the stocks purchased had subsequently been transferred to Nasir’s account.

IS AZAM PROVIDING THE RIGHT LEADERSHIP FOR MACC?

CHAIRMAN – SOCIAL CARE FOUNDATION (Co. Reg. 199701007685 (423181-X).

IS AZAM PROVIDING THE RIGHT LEADERSHIP FOR MACC?

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is our main instrument in the fight against corruption and bad governance.  For MACC to succeed in its mission it must have the support of the people. It cannot achieve its full potential if it loses public confidence in the man who leads that institution. Leadership with integrity is key to institutional credibility. Quite clearly The Chief Commissioner has lost his credibility in the eyes of the people at large.

What is the Government’s position on this? The argument that he has broken no law over his ownership of company shares and in allowing his “adik” to use his shares account is plausible, on the face of it.  What about the question of his personal and professional judgment?

A person in his high profile and sensitive position should have the sense to exercise great care to avoid creating the wrong perception about his actions. The public perception is that he was using his brother as a convenient cover for his own corrupt activities.

There might have been no basis at all in fact. The negative perception that he has created has done great damage not only to his personal reputation but also, even more, serious the very shaky and fragile reputation of MACC itself. Given that no man is bigger than the institution, the Chief Commissioner must accept responsibility for bringing MACC into disrepute by his flawed personal and professional judgment.

In this respect, something must give. The Chief Commissioner must go so that MACC may regain its lost public confidence and support.  Malaysia has to win the war against rampant corruption.

We must therefore not forget that the Golden Rule by Our Almighty God that no one is mightier than our Divine God – we must be treated fairly, squarely plus performing our duties/obligations with dignity and integrity, WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOR.  Therefore Azam Baki must enhance and explain to the Nation.  I repeat, NO ONE IS INDISPENSABLE and be always guided and governed by our Almighty God.

GOD BLESS OUR NATION.  STAY HOME AND STAY SAFE.
