ENOUGH IS ENOUGH - DO NOT HIT BELOW THE BELT!!!

PRESS STATEMENT BY:-
TAN SRI DATUK ROBERT PHANG MIOW SIN
Justice of Peace
Chairman – Social Care Foundation

16th January 2013

This is an open letter to urge A-G Malaysia – Chief Justice of Courts Malaysia and Bar Council President to sincerely probe into the article by a PERKASA Writer.

Sometime ago, Free Malaysia Today reported that a PERKASA writer (supposedly one Zainuddin) launched a character assassination against Justice VT Singham by questioning his sexuality, integrity and honesty. In fact, it was such a demeaning article that I myself wonder about the mental health and state of the writer.

It is not surprising as PERKASA never ceases to amaze us time and time again with their maligned thinking. What perplexes me the most is the deafening silence of political leaders and all legal practitioners with regards to this issue.

Why does our Attorney General choose to remain mum on this unwarranted attack on a Judge? Is it because he is a judge who is known to have been liberal and just in any given circumstance? The A-G, by his silence clearly seems to affirm the thoughts of the “disturbed” PERKASA writer and is also ignoring his duty as stated in the Constitution.

Nazri Aziz as the de facto law minister has got to voice out against this absurdity. He cannot blanket his thoughts to himself in the name of politics. It is his duty to respond or for the matter, criticize such irresponsible postings about a judge. Why it is that both the A-G and the de facto law minister choose not to exercise their duties remains a million dollar question.

The lowly article clearly reflects the extremist mentality that PERKASA has been preaching for years. How can you label a guy for being single? Are all single men gay? Does this reflect the transformation to a liberal thinking society that the PM is trying to initiate?

I also strongly urge the Bar Council and its president Lim Chee Wee and Social Activist/Reform Datuk Ambiga to stand up for Judge VT Singham. I am perplexed at their rather low key manner in tackling this situation. It is in total contradiction to their take on national issues recently. Why they choose not to protect one of their own is beyond my comprehension.

I am also appalled with MPs and politicians because they run to Judges when they seek justice in court but when Justice is under attack, they choose to be conveniently and hypocritically silent. They should not in future bring their grouses to court.
