Musa an ‘ungrateful’ outgoing IGP

Media statement by Tan Sri Datuk Robert Phang  - 08 - 09- 2010

OUTGOING Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan’s sudden attack on his former masters, the home ministry and politicians, for meddling in police affairs is most unbecoming as a senior civil servant – which is a very serious issue.Has he forgotten that his tenure as top cop was extended thrice by former Prime Minister Y.A.B. Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Y.A.B.Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and Y.B. Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Bin Tun Hussein.

His current tirade smacks of the proverbial “sour grapes”. Just because his tenure has not been extended, he has now suddenly found his guts to speak up for the force and champion independence.

Why did he not talk tough when he was IGP?

Perhaps it is reflective of Musa’s ineffectiveness and irresponsibility – when serving as IGP – Nation’s Top Police.Musa is just being ungrateful to his former masters whom he had served with their support. At the end of all those talk, Musa should look himself in the mirror and ask whether he had contributed to the enhancement of the police force. The nation’s crime rate is at a worrying state and the public has lost much confidence in the police force.

How else can you explain the public’s sudden demand to set up neighbourhood security, especially in the KlangValley, to beef up safety for themselves and their loved ones.If the people had the confidence in the police crime-prevention system, they would not have to dig deep into their pockets to pay for a good night’s sleep. The government had also allocated a massive RM8 billion budget for the police force and Musa cannot whine of lack of financial resources for the force.Suddenly, Musa is hurling all sorts of accusations at the government and his former political masters. Don’t tell me that he is Mr Perfect and thus the government should not interfere? The public’s perception on corruption in the police force is also left much to be desired. The alleged Israeli involvement in police procurement, the force’s alleged links with the underworld and many other undesirable issues are all raised during Musa’s tenure as IGP.

Musa’s outburst is just unbecoming of a retiring senior servant.

It is on record that KDN which is the Home Ministry by tradition and also by designed is to ensure all Departments within the KDN will conduct their businesses or duties in accordance to the directive and SOP. PDRM happens to be the biggest department under KDN, which naturally is under very close supervision by KDN in all respects. In short, KDN is to ensure there is no abuse of powers affecting the Rakyat and the serving Police Officers, and more so to check and balance of the whole of PDRM. It is therefore very unfair to regard as interference.

What is important is the Public must be ensured of a good Police Force but sad to say, during the tenure of IGP, this was never the case.He should stop trying to portray himself as a police saint and be grateful that he was given the opportunity to serve the country.Musa also claims that he did not know that he would be retired. What rubbish. It is mandatory for civil servants to retire after reaching their age limit. What else is he expecting? Just accept the fact that his time is up and retire gracefully and pray for personal peace.
