KL crime index drops 18 percent

KUALA LUMPUR: The crime index for Kuala Lumpur dropped 6,707 points or 18.3 percent to 29,953 last year compared to the 36,663 points in 2009, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said Tuesday.He also said that last year, a total of 14,806 of the 29,953 investigated cases, or 49.4 per cent, were solved.


"This is a good sign, indicating that our service to the people has improved. So, we have to maintain the momentum."In 2011, we will focus more on what the people in Kuala Lumpur want us to do. As such, we will engage with the people much more," he told reporters here.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said street crime in Kuala Lumpur last year saw a 38.4 percent drop compared to 2009.He said that last year a total of 6,885 street crime cases were recorded compared to 11,186 cases in 2009. -
