KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- The Social Care Foundation has appealed to the government to make changes in the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) structure as it had allegedly failed to meet its desired function.
In a statement today, foundation chairman Tan Sri Robert Phang said the government should explore ESSCom's actual structure and its achievements to prevent it from being referred to as "lame duck" by the public.
Since ESSCom was formed, he said it had not been able to function efficiently, adding that it was strange the ESSCom director-general (Datuk Mohammad Mentek) was not seconded from the police or the military.
Phang, who is also Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) executive council member, urged the goverment to change the ESSCom leadership, as well.
Mohammad, 49, a former Sabah immigration director was appointed to lead ESSCom, starting April 1, last year.
