MACC urge business houses, Chambers of Commerce to combat corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today urged associations and Chambers of Commerce to help in the fight against corruption among businessmen.MACC Chief Datuk Abu Kassim Mohamed said Chambers of Commerce have a major role to play in the business community, in efforts to achieve a corrupt-free business community."We have established an understanding with some business houses and now working towards roping in business chambers to assist MACC in the fight against corruption.

"MACC always welcomes non governmental organizations (NGO) and business associations to be actively involved in carrying out initiatives to combat corruption," he told reporters after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) at the MACC academy here today.ACCIM was represented by its chairman Tan Sri William Cheng Heng Jem.Abu Kassim said since 2009 to June 2010, the MACC had detained 2,217 individuals comprising businessmen, officers from the government and private organizations, for corruption.
