KUALA LUMPUR: The Tabung Bencana NSTP-Media Prima, set up to alleviate the burden of tens of thousands affected by the floods, received a boost when the chairman of Social Care Foundation, Tan Sri Robert Phang, and his associate from Oscar Bonanza Sdn Bhd, Richard Pan Siew Voon, contributed RM50,000 and RM10,000 respectively, yesterday. "The floods is something that we have to endure.
"We have to empathise with those whose lives have been disrupted by this and are living in deplorable and trying conditions.
"The government has done a lot in helping those affected by it and it is our turn to lend a helping hand to those who need it," said Pan.
"Personal contributions such as this would hopefully prompt others to join in the efforts and bring out the true 1Malaysia spirit in all of us," said Phang.
He said he would also like to appeal for donations from corporations and individuals as any aid would certainly benefit the cause.
New Straits Times group editor Datuk Syed Nadzri Syed Harun was present to receive the mock cheques.
"We are grateful for this contribution and hope that it would encourage others to help the flood victims," said Syed Nadzri.
NSTP head of corporate communications, Wan Abdillah Wan Nawi, said the fund stands at RM649,000 as of January, and will be distributed to those affected, accordingly.
