Phang: No need for police report

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Robert Phang Miow Sin will not lodge a police report against the blog "A Voice" over the allegations of corruption levelled against him in a posting last week.He said there was no need for a police report as the matter was already being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Phang, who relinquished his post in the MACC consultation and corruption prevention panel on Thursday, said his decision to resign was seen as the best solution at the moment.

"I find it inappropriate to stay in the panel while I am being investigated. I will not come back until my name is cleared," he said.MACC investigation director Mustafar Ali confirmed that an investigation was underway. The blog posting alleged that Phang had attempted to bribe the secretary-general of a government ministry before Hari Raya last year to get RM900 million worth of contracts. The 72-year-old philanthropist refuted the allegation. He said that it was an attempt to discredit his efforts in raising public awareness of corruption scandals involving prominent politicians and public figures.

The AG of Malaysia is beyond the pale. There has been numerous accounts of his most inappropriate behaviour. Allegations of corruption and abuses of processes of law abound and appear thoroughly credible. If he has any ounce of integrity he should step down already. Alas, he is no where near the man that Robert Phang is. Gani Patail is a minnow - dare I say even a dog - and is an absolute disaster for Malaysia. He does not deserve to even be mentioned in the same page as Robert Phang. Robert brings honour and integrity - someone the whole of Malaysia can be proud of. Gani Patail brings shame and total dishonour to himself, the legal profession and the law enforcementr machinery of Malaysia. He is not fit to hold any position in the machinery of law enforcement, let alone that of AG of the country.

The PM should be urged to sack Gani Patail. Why has the PM been reluctant to act? Get rid of this dishonourable person.
