MACC opens 20 investigation papers after audit report 2008

KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened 20 investigation papers and five inspection and consultation papers following the national auditor-general's report 2008 which was released last year.
According to a media statement released Sunday, the investigation carried out had resulted in three people being charged in court, four MACC reports which were submitted to the Head of Department concerned with a proposal that disciplinary proceedings be taken against the officers concerned, five advisory letters to the department concerned and five systems and procedural studies to plug any loopholes for corrupt practices or abuses.

"Cases of investigations being closed without any action taken were due to the fact that there were no corrupt practices or crime being committed or due to the lack of evidence to prosecute," it said.Meanwhile, the cases that were taken to court were in respect of three officers of a subsidiary company of the Malaysian Tourism Promotions Board which involved the use of RM888,000 in allocations.




The statement said the three individuals concerned had been charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code and the cases were still being heard.
